Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

5.18.08

I got almost all the mowing done yesterday and was so tired I almost passed out on the hammock. It's a hard life but someone has to live it

Today I hope to get the last mowing and tilling done and some more planting.

I've been looking on freecycle and the like for a paper shredder. I want one to make packing material but I also thought it might make good mulch. I use newspaper in the gardens already for weedblock but I was thinking the shredded paper might be more mulchlike.

We have several big old oaks and more then enough leaves to use as mulch and it works wonderfully. Got to look for acorns that sprout tho. when we find them we take them to the forest. I don't know if any have actually ever made it tho, I think creatures eat them.
