Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

7.13.08

It's almost 6am and the day is off to a good start. We had chilidogs for second breakfast and I've been working all morning to get caught up on some things. I think I'm close to being back on schedule. My schedule anyway :)

I've gotten the mans laundry done that I do on Sundays, so that's out of the way. I still have to get 2 tea orders ready and packaged up and some books to get ready to mail for paperbackswap.

The weather is supposed to be nice today and I also plan on working on henhouse to double the size and working in the garden a bit. We also need to double check and make sure all the scraping is done on the house to start painting this week.

If I can get to it, I'm also going to start framing in the front porch to enclose it before the fall.

I just do a little at a time and eventually it all gets done :)

We have a pasel of Aracauna chicks in the bathtub that I need to get out as well. We weren't expecting them and had already taken down the chick side gate so we could work on the henhouse. I hadn't planned on more chicks, 20 is quite enough but it looks like we'll have 30 or more total.

I'm in the process of getting new homes for the ducks too, at least 4 of them and maybe all 6. I shouldn't have bought them but I felt sorry for them, blah blah blah .... I know

I'm also going to list my dishwasher for sale. I bought it 3 or 4 years ago but have never been able to get anyone to help me put it in and the money from it can go to something more useful.

Well, I'm off, I hope the day is bountiful with all good things.

It sounds as if you have a full day ahead of you. I love getting up early and getting started on my day. If by some fluke I should sleep untin 7 or 8 I start out with a huge hole in my day and can't seem to get anything done.

We try to do things around here a little at a time. With this man of mine though it can prove a difficult task to pull him back once he gets started. I have to remind him that now that he has retired we don't have a money tree growing in the back yard.

Have a great day Juli.
