Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

8.3.08 Merry August !

It's 5:30 am and in about another hour I'll be able to get some things done outside. I've been getting out early to get outside work done before it gets to hot and working to get the shops and website reorganized and ready for Fall when. Inbetween I've been doing the regular stuff.

I'm having grapes, toast and iced cappuccino for breakfast. I try hard to keep the 100 miles rule, buy from growers and maker within 100 miles. There are so many reasons to do it but it can be difficult and I do often have to change the menu to fit what I can find. On the other hand it's always interesting to see what I can make that week from what I was able to find. I need to get a freezer so I can stock up more.

This week I was able to get local grapes, a rare find around here. They're actually from more then 100 miles but still more local then usual. I got 2 pounds and have been eating some for breakfast each morning but I'm probably going to be drying the rest for raisins. I know they won't make much but some is better than none :)

In just two more weeks some beloved friends will be coming to visit from Texas. They'll only be here for a day but it will be a very good day. Plans change but for now the plan is ... Buckingham's, big fat stuffed smoke baked potatoes with pulled pork, baked bean and horseradish coleslaw. A local delicacy :)

It's supposed to be 97 today but it will likely be a bit cooler here, it usually is cooler out here then the forecast. As soon as it's light enough, around 6:30, I'll get out and get some more painting done on the house. then, as soon as the grass is dry enough, I'll get some mowing done.

Merry Day :)

I haven't even thought about what I will be feeding sheri and clan yet. Guess I had better start thinking.

I am SO excited for your visit with Sheri and family! They are really making the rounds this August! Think how many of us will be posting about visiting with her, LOL! Merry August to you too, and enjoy the day. I'm doing much the same - organizing for the season.
