Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

9.22.08 Feeling Better Still :)

Another glorious day!

It may rain, tho it often looks like it might and doesn't.

We found 4 eggs today on the ground around the henhouse. I'm not sure why they're not laying inside. There's not enough room for them to roost but there are 8 nest boxes. The chicks roost in the lower boxes at night but hens generally don't lay at night and there are still the top boxes. We must get the henhouse done and soon. If it doesn't rain we'll try to get a bit more done today. I still need to get another 4x4 and some more screws. And horribly, I think the battery in my beloved cordless drill is going out *~*

That drill is one of the greatest things. A BlacknDecker cordless drill. My ex-husband gave it to me as a Christmas gift several years ago and it's worth it's weight in rubies.

I'm also going to try and get some garden work done. Dig up some more carrots and check the last tomatoes. Someone has been stealing tomatoes, maybe a fat raccoon ? Who ever it is took my last giant beefsteak which I had great plans for. But they must have been hungry so that's the balance because I have plenty to eat.

I so love the Fall but I never like pulling up the spent garden plants. I know they'll in turn feed Gaia's flora and fauna but I always feel a little mean to pull them up.

For now I'm off to have a bit a lunch.

Merry Day Everyone :)
