Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

What a beautiful day !

We've been so busy the last few days. To the feed store for feed and people peanuts. to the gas station for gas. To the market for some groceries. To the movie store to rent Indiana and the crystal skull. and a stop to pick up ((((((((((((walnuts))))))))))). Today we took recycling, returned several glass milk jugs, returned Indiana Jones and stopped to get some canned goods at a sale.

Indiana was good and we stayed up late that night eating peanuts and watching. Harrison Ford is a beautiful man. We hadn't rented a movie in years but it was great fun.

I think I did slip a disc in my back a week or so ago, It hurts blastedly bad but it's getting better every day. Work has stopped completely on the henhouse because of it but it has to start and finish this week backache or no.

Egg sales are down this year by half. That may change when we get the sign out but our regular customers are buying about half of what they used to.

I've discovered that if you pour your walnuts in the chicken pen the hens will clean them for you. When I was a kid my Grandfather used to pour them in the driveway and run the green off but we hardly ever go anywhere so I thought I would put a few in the chicken pen and see what happened. I only put two because I wasn't sure if the tannin would be toxic to the hens. They seem quite fine tho and so we put 2 buckets of nuts in yesterday and today we have greenless nuts to pick up :)

Don't forget to keep some good greens back to use for ringworm, age spots and other things tho.

I spent a whole day of phone calling trying to find out how to make The Karmic Cat a nonprofit so that i can accept donations and get vets to help out at a greatly reduced cost. but in the end, after talking to 17 people on the phone and finally having to search out all the info on my own, I discovered that it costs roughly around 900 dollars to register as a nonprofit. 300 to register, 300 for IRS for tax exemption (which I'm not positive I need) and 300 for something but I've forgotten what it is.

The next try is to see if a current nonprofit would sponsor us. It's all very complicated and non of it seems to benefit the cats.

For now I'm to tired to think and still have a few things to get done.

Peaceful night everyone !

Hope you find something that will work for your cats. You do so much to help animals there should be some way to get funds so you can do more.

Oy. Red tape and money. Not my favorite subjects either. Even in you only go with the Federal non-profit status, doing the confusing filing yourself, and skip the rest, it's still $500. We did it for the theatre and it was a four month chore. Sometimes, larger non-profits will "umbrella" for you though - you acting as one of their programs. You could look into that. Maybe google "umbrella not-profit" or something.

I have a bad hip so I know how hard it is to get things done when your body is saying, "No... no... stop or I'll make you SORRY!"
SisP had rented Indiana and past it on to me and Old Man before taking it back. I got to watch it uninterrupted because mom was sound asleep at 9pm and was having a good night. We had popcorn that Old Man popped on the stove. We're not really into the micro wave popcorn.
(((Juli))) you try so hard to help the critters. I'll keep sending good wishes to The Karmic Cat.

Juli, reading you blog is such a peaceful feeling. mouse is right--try to get umbrella-ed under another organization that already has a 501c3 status. That will save you headaches and money.

Take care of your back. Do you have a back brace? You really need to pay attention to that because you don't want it to get worse. A brace can be a big help. I used to have a small one; if I can find it I'll mail it to you. Send me an email with your address.
