Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

10.4.08 Some of Those Days

The last few days have been a bit odd, infused with that strange energy that seems to come up on most everyone at one time or another, here and there thru-out the year. Whatever it is that makes your biscuits burn and your gravy lumpy, you step in cat poop twice in one day and once the next day, a couple of animals get sick and a couple get injured, all within 72 hours and all different maladies, you get a large late fee on a bill you thought you were ahead on, and on and on.

Now, I've heard that some people theorize that this is just the imagination of the person experiencing it. They believe that one or two things happen and then the person just sees every negative thing possible, compounding the events subconsciously themselves. Well, I say hogswallop!

There truly seems to be some outside negative energy afoot when these events occur. Something that is not the individuals subconscious doing, something that effects not only the specific individual but those around them as well. I can't say what it is, only that it is. I've been able to feel it around other people when it wasn't affecting me personally at all. And when those people go their way, it indeed does follow them.

Energy is just energy. There is only good or bad in the intent in which it's used or sent out. But I'll leave that for another time.

Anyway ....

The only thing I do know for sure is that, the cure is the same regardless of who's theory you believe. The cure is, forceful positivity. Through many years of experience with the bad-step-in-poo-energy, I have discovered that the more you let it get you down the longer it lasts and the worse things become. I've experienced people whose whole lives have been invaded and infested with the stuff, it seems to creep into your bones eventually and can be very, very hard to get rid of at that stage.

The key is to keep it from taking root from the start and the way I've found to do that is to remain forcefully positive. It's kind of like a virus that takes hold in a weakened immune system. Thankfully, we have a great deal of control over our emotional immune systems and with awareness we can boost it even further and fight back.

The negative virus sends out tiny tendrils that we usually don't even notice. Your biscuits burn for no apparent reason, it's a bummer but you can still eat the tops. Then the gravy you've made hundreds of times without incident is inexplicably lumpy. An aggravation but it's edible and you go on your way.

As the day, or days, go by and more and more small things happen it starts to wear you down and the more worn down you get the more things happen and so on and so on.

So, as soon as we can, we must see it for one of those cycles (whatever they're origin) and refuse it any hold. I don't mean every time biscuits burn or gravy is lumpy but any time we begin to feel that down trodden feeling. And what the Hades, anytime a biscuit burns as well. What would it hurt to boost your positivity anyway. Just consciously choose not to let it get to you, break you down or take any hold of you. Shit happens but we don't have to give up and lay down in it.

I'm actually not at all one of those happy-joy people. Nothing at all wrong with that, to each our own! But that's not me. Personally, I have a quiet happiness. It's a deep, strong happiness mortared with plenty of joy, but quiet and reserved for the most part. The point is, it doesn't matter how you hold your happiness and joy, wear it as a wild hat or keep it in a covered basket, as long as you have it and hold it dear, that's all that matters.

Whether natural or unnatural, things will happen from time to time. How we choose to see them and react to them, can change our whole lives and influence the choices of others.

Many Blessings !

I agree with you whole heartedly. I find when I do have a day like that, which isn't often, if I stand back and look at it, I find myself laughing at the whole situation and myself then it disappears.

I agree. I just have to remember to think positive more instead of letting the negative take over. Have a blessed weekend Juli.

I agree! It's so easy to just wallow in the crap. The problem is that before you know it... you're stuck in the stinking stuff. Balance! I feel we do have the power to make our life more positive. I'm not poo pooing our problems but get back up! It might not take our problems away but good music, art, whatever brings us pleasure can also help us ease the depression and worries.
