Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

A strange morning. I woke at about 4:30 and woke straight up. I never do that. I generally wake a little at a time and then lie in bed for awhile, so the rest of me has time to wake. Not today. One of the cats knocked a newspaper off a footstool and it sounded like a bomb went off. Nik heard it too but said it wasn't very loud at all. Weird.

I've also been having trouble with AOL the last few days and this morning it's taken me over an hour to finally get online. *~* At least I was able to get here eventually tho :)

I stayed up late last evening getting some new teas listed. 3 Sisters, Warmth and Sensual Teas. I was having trouble with Etsy so I need to get there and straighten the pictures out.

I need to find and order some good organic vanilla beans when I can. And I don't have enough Feverfew or Echinacea to make it thru the winter. My kingdom for a greenhouse!

Yesterday we didn't get a lot done, it was rainy outside most of the day so I read a lot. We got a little firewood chopped and brought to the porch. and some kindling broken down.

I'm reading Into The Forest, a very good book so far. About 2 sisters, in their mid teens, un/homeschooled, surviving with no electricity, phone or gasoline. Making do with what they have. I'm not very far along but I'm liking it a lot for now.

I did get enough apples prepared for 2 pies. I don't make traditional pies, I make the more rustic kind with the edge of a rough crust folded over. I've actually seen then called tarts but they're pies to me.

And work on moving the Juju things off my work table is a slow process. It's hard to fine room to put things so you can still fairly easily get them. We have an old armoire that is our game cabinet for now and holds my broken stereo/CD player on top. I'm thinking of trying to find another place for games and using that for juju stuff. We'll see.

Todays plan is cleaning out the chicken pen, I got the houses cleaned but not their yard. Chopping more firewood, more wood to the porch. Gathering more kindling and maybe more leaves to the garden if we can get to it.

We're expecting Netflix today, I think I'm getting Ghost Hunters :)

Todays menu is ... Oatmeal with apples for breakfast. Thymed chicken with cranberries, baked potatoes and corn for lunch. Alond waffles for supper. Chocolate cake and hot tea for dessert.

Your rain is going to be here tonight. I am looking forward to a rain day so I can get some things done inside. I want to organize my kitchen better and declutter some of the things out of there I don't ever use. Your meals sound so yummy. Wish I were there to share a slice of pie and chat with you!

Oh, if I were only closer to you! We have about 40 old wooden windows that could be built into a gorgeous greenhouse. Funny about the waking up thing - I had exactly the same experience today. "The Forest" sounds more and more interesting. I'll have to look into it.

_into the forest_ sounds like a book i'd like to read. i love stories about and the notion of making due with what's there.
