Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

ABC's of Homemaking

ABC's of Homemaking

I got this from Sue's wonderful blog a while back and thought I would try it as well :)

So here goes ............

A ~Aprons--y/n If y, what does your favorite look like?
Yes, I have two and they're both basic black. One is for painting and one for baking and they're very easy to tell apart because of all the paint :)

B ~ Baking--Favorite thing to bake?
I love baking, all kinds of things. I love finding very old recipes, early 1900's are my favorites, and try them out. I often have to modify them for what I have now and I never eat lamb or any other child.

C ~ Clothes line?
Indeed, always. Hanging clothes on the line has always been very meditative for me. And of course it dries the clothes as well :)

D ~ Donuts--Have you ever made them?
It would probably be more accurate to say, I've tried. I'm terrible at frying things but I can usually figure out how to cook them another way. Like the baked corndogs :)

E ~ Everyday--One homemaking thing you do everyday?
I love, every day I love and am loved and that is the foundation to making a home. In my humble opinion.

F ~ Freezer--Do you have a separate deep freeze?
No. I greatly wish we did and someday we will.

G ~ Garbage Disposer?
Yes, many. chickens, ducks, cats, dogs ...

H ~ Handbook--What is your favorite homemaking resource?
I've never found a favorite resource, there are so many. Books, sites, friends, neighbors. Each as valuable as the next. I do use the Stocking Up book quite often tho and my Grandfather, Emmett, taught me so much about gardening and farming things.

I ~ Ironing--Love it or Hate it? Or hate it but love the results?
I don't mind it tho I rarely do it for more than closing tea bags.

J ~ Junk Drawer--y/n? Where is it?
A very organized junk drawer, in the Hoosier.

K ~ Kitchen--color and decorating scheme.
Decorated in the lovely ecclectic-shabby-magical-cottage-flea market style. Mostly blues and white, a little sage, a little curry a bit or two of purple.

L ~ Love--what is your favorite part of homemaking?
Living simply

M ~ Mop--y/n?
Sometimes

N ~ Nylons, machine or hand wash?
Nylons ? I have some nylon rope, which I've never washed.

O ~ Oven--do you use the window or open the oven to check?
Open to check, smell says as much as sight and anyway our oven light burned out over a year ago.

P ~ Pizza--What do you put on yours?
White sauce, chicken, mushrooms and spinach

Q ~ Quiet--What do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment?
Daydream

R ~ Recipe Card Box--y/n? What does it look like?
No, I keep mine in a notebook. Pasted, taped, handwritten and printed.

S ~ Style of house--What style is your house?
Tiny Earthberm

T ~Tablecloths or Place mats?
Tablecloths.

U ~ Under the kitchen sink--organized or toxic wasteland?
Organized

V ~ Vacuum--How many times per week?
At least twice but it always needs more. I think carpets should be torn out and replaced with easy to clean hard floors and washable throw rugs. Wall to wall Carpets are just big old creepy cootie collectors. No offense to cooties.

W ~ Wash--How many loads of laundry do you do per week?
For us it's about 4 in the warmer months and about 3 during the colder months but I also take in laundry and do another 3 to 4 loads per week.

X's--Do you keep a daily list of things to do that you cross off?
I keep 2 daily lists, one of things to be done each week, which I don't cross off, and one for extra things that day, which i do cross off. I have lists for everything, but I usually can't find them :)

Y ~ Yard--y/n?
Yes and I plan to plant as much of it as possible with medicinals and edibles as I can.

ZZZ's ~ what is your last homemaking task for the day before going to bed?
Saying thanks for how amazingly blessed we are :)
