Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

The Sun slept in today, like many of us here did. Snug and safe in our warm, soft beds.

The Forest is made of glass and nothing moves or stirs except the flitter of a bright cardinal or a little brown chickadee,

We're so lucky to have so much, I wish it were so for everyone. A stick of firewood is like a brick of gold, a pot of beans like rubies.

I haven't done much today. I've been playing Dreamfall here and there the last few days. i like it very much.

I got a bit of sewing done, mending mostly. Both our work gloves have rips and tears. I made some pillow cases and started some covers for the backs of the dinning chairs.

We had cinnamon rolls for breakfast, cold pizza for lunch and I'm getting ready to start supper. Spicy herbed beef with brown rice, black olives and parmesan cheese in pitas with some carrot sticks on the side.

I put some beans to soak earlier for homemade chili tomorrow.

The lights just flickered again, we'll likely loose electricity, we often do in these times. Thankfully we don't need it to be just fine.

I am worried about some of the hens. They seem to be doing much better now but when we went out this morning to feed and water, at about 8:00, there were several encrusted with ice and not going in their houses. I locked them in for a while and let them back out at second check this afternoon, they seem to be doing fine but still not going in their houses. chicken sense is an odd thing indeed.

Last week, Thursday night I believe, we had a weird thing happen. We had gone out late to fill up the Crow truck and returned to find the porch gate, which had been closed and locked, open and knocked down.

We brought Star and Apollo in and Star and I checked every room to be sure. All was well but while I didn't feel anyone had been inside, it still felt very creepy.

For now I'm off to make pitas. Be warm and safe and happy !
