Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

The Peepers are out tonight !! ((((((((((((((( my little minions ))))))))))))))))) I love them so much.

The day was most excellent. Warm with a gentle breeze, like fresh scones and butter glaze.

We got quite a bit done. Worked outside some, painted some, cleaned some. Got a large tea order out and worked on printing up more labels and getting ready to make more soap in the next few days.

We also picked up some wonderful bowls that I found on Craigslist. I never seem to have enough bowls, one filled with apples, one with soaking beans, one with bread dough rising, one with eggs to boil ..... I was able to get a very pretty set of large, very nice bowls and a large platter and 2 candle sticks for less than just two of the bowls would have cost new. It was a very good and much needed deal. Thank you so much :)

We must have a hen prone to twins and triplets. Used to we might get a double yolk egg once or twice a year. With these hens we get one monthly and most recently I think we found a triple yolked egg. I've actually never seen nor heard of one but I don't see why they couldn't have triplets on occasion. And, if the double yolk eggs are good luck then a triple yolk egg may win the lottery :) I can't bring myself to eat them (poor things, who aren't even fertilized but still are creepy) but maybe I can get Nik to eat it and then buy a ticket :)
Gigantor egg & relugar large egg

I had a bit of unfortunate news this week. I called the manager of the store where we meet the people who buy our eggs, to ask if we could put out a sign and sell there. Each time we go a few people stop and ask what we're selling so i thought I would ask and then start actually selling to more people. But they said no. No, no never *~* So then I called the Super and they said no. I called around a bit and everyone said no. I see people selling things all over the place, the Honey man sells his honey, people sell kittens and puppies, the Melon lady sells her melons every summer. But every place I called said that it was illegal because there's no public vending allowed in public parking lots ?

I'll figure something out tho, I'm sure of it. I do intend to sell at our Farmers Market but It doesn't open for a while yet.

Well, I'm off to do Juli things. I hope everyone gets peepers :)

Can you afford to spend a bit of cash to get a couple of those magnetic signs made for the sides of your truck? Then you any time you drove around town you would advertise "EGGS!" or whatever...

Just a thought...

That pottery and those bowls and such are gorgeous! What a wonderful find.

The stores may be just hairtrigger responding to state rules? I can't imagine it's anything personal. In my state anyway, you're permitted to sell eggs, but only to end users. That is, selling to the consumer is allowed, but selling through stores and restaurants is not. I think the signs on the truck idea is awesome. Peggy posts her eggs on Craigslist and sells a good amount that way, I know.
