Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

2.8.09

The weather has been so wonderful ! Warm and breezy. The smell of damp earth is everywhere. I can almost smell the seedlings reaching up to break thru to the sun. I don't know if it will last, it's much to early for Spring and yet, even the animals speak of it being here.

The numbers haven't ceased since they began again last year but they had lessened in frequency until last week. All last week there were 1's and 4's, mainly 4's. Yesterday was very interesting. It was 3:33 the first time I looked at the clock. I had 3 financial things to tend to and the totals on each were 141.41, 14.44 and 441.41 How odd. I do know it's meant for a reason but what reason I cannot say. I am a channel, have been all my life, if there were messages it seems like I would be given them that way. I can only guess that the messenger in question isn't able to make that sort of contact.

Things are as they are.

We've sold several of our chickens, 6 hens and Archimedes. We're just not set up to keep a rooster yet and tho I do plan to have one or two eventually I hadn't planned on any of the chicks being roosters so wasn't ready. Hen wise, I hadn't planned on more than 20 poultry total and ended up with over 30 counting the ducks.

I've also had an offer to trade our remaining 4 Buffs, I'm seriously considering it.

I don't like selling or trading living beings. I never have. I believe it's wrong and yet, here I am.

Today will be spent delivering eggs and working outside, if it doesn't rain. I hope the guy picks up the 6 hens and Archimedes this morning. I need to clean the henhouses and pen yard and we're having to keep those separate in the pen until he comes.

I got canvases yesterday, I was so thankful to find them on sale ! but I priced paint tubes and was a bit horrified. I hadn't gotten any in ages and they've gone up quite a bit. So I only got canvases and I'm still as happy as a clam.

Why do people say that i wonder. The clams humans come into contact with can't be very happy because humans are always killing and eating everyone *~*

I've been overcome with temporary insanity lately. An intense desire to eat out as often as possible, go many places, have a microwave, drink pop ! Maybe Spring really is here :)

For the last few days I've been working on my art website, it's been very neglected bit I've moved to a new and better host site and it's in the works again :) I'll attach the domain name to it soon but for now you can see what there is of it here ...

Anyway, the day holds great promise and warm winds.

Namaste, all of you !

I've cut my poultry herd down also. My husband is now working part time for several weeks at a time all over the globe. That leaves me with the farm, which I love, but I'm over 60 and my Lupus has worsened, so no more horses, chicken population reduced by half, no more retail greenhouse stuff, etc. That leaves me with lighter work load, time to notice and enjoy my animals, wildlife and landscape, my artwork, reading, writing, etc. It all works itself out.
Enjoy the weather. I'm visiting CO and expect snow soon.

Hello there. You're living the life I would live, if I dared, and I'm really enjoying your blogs. We've just moved out into the country, and I'm starting to learn about herbs and native plants and animals. I'd love a few chickens, but the family is giving me considerable resistance on that one. Winter is losing its grip here, too, and it's wonderful to see the earth again.

Thanks for adding me to your "follow" list! Yours is on mine, too.

Hey Kiddo, I checked out your art gallery site and your work is beautiful.... I found quit a few of them that really spoke to me and stirred my emotions. You are a very gifted young woman.

Even though I admit to enjoying the wonderul taste of spring that we are having, I am so afraid that the plants and trees will start blooming and then get slammed with another hard freeze.

Hope you and Nk have a wonderful blessed week ahead.

Feeling like Spring in WV too; my sister sent pics of the flowers starting to break through in her garden. My plants are still nicely asleep and I think I want them to stay that way for a while longer.

But the lettuce bed is dug and ready for burning; I hope we can plant it next weekend.

Hello Juli...I've enjoyed your blogs! This post particularly interested me because for the past year or so I've noticed when glancing at the clock, certain times seem to "stick out". My husband has noticed it, too. It's either 1:11, 11:11 or 4:44. Any thoughts on that? Ha...maybe I should just stop looking at the time so much?! Thank you for following my newest blog, my main blog is Wishnik Woods.
