Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

Spring has Sprung

We have an amazing chorus of peepers and frogs and a whippoorwill this evening. It's so very wonderful and kind of like walking around with my own theme music playing :) I wish everyone could hear it!

Everything is beginning to green and so many things are blooming. The people across the road have a bright pink Redbud tree in bloom and a row of bright yellow Forsythia.

We have dogwood and sweet almond in bloom and lots of lilac buds. Even the little blueberry bush is blooming.

All the plant starts are growing well. I've moved the little greenhouse outside and have begun transplanting them to larger little nursery pots. A friend who works at a nursery gave me a bunch of trays and pots with little cracks and things that the nursery was going to throw out. Perfect :)

I found out about a new Farmers Market starting up this year but I don't think I'll be setting up at this one. They're charging vendors 10.00 per day *~* The most expensive Market fees I have ever paid are 50.00 per season which is around 5 months.

I do plan to set up at, at least 3 this year. our regular Ozark Market, probably Nixa market and maybe Spokane market. I'm considering Ava market as well this year altho it is quite a drive. I've considered Springfield Markets but I loath driving into Springfield. It's not a bad place at all, I was born there. I'm just not a city person at all.

The little pip is growing wildly. He's doing things newborn kittens do not do. He tries to stand while he eats, he purrs, he can hear and he can use the bathroom without help. If I hadn't cut the cord myself just a few days ago i would swear he was much older. Regardless, I'm so thankful he's doing so well. We haven't seen where she took the other kitten but I hope it and any more will be safe and well cared for.

We worked much of the weekend getting things ready for a yard sale. I plan to have one for the next few weekends. We need to clear some things out and any money would always help. I try hard to only bring in what we need or truly want and try to keep on top of things but they do build up over the years.

And last for the day, we got a very strange egg from the hens. The strangest we've ever had but that's not saying much because we rarely have strange eggs.

We had the roughest winter since the 70's , but the spring flowers have been more beautiful than I ever remember. Guess the snowfalls provided what was needed.

Glad Pip is doing well , she's so tiny. That is a wild looking egg.
