Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

Prayers & Cycles

(((((((((( Jennie & Doug )))))))))))
A prayer and energy request ... I have a dear friend (Jennie) who's long time mate (Doug) is in need of healing and strength. It has to do with a mass in his head and ear.

Just another amazing day. I do love all the seasons but there is no doubt that Fall is my favorite :) We moved here this time of year, we celebrated Thanksgiving right after moving in. I'm not sure yet where we will be celebrating this year but we surely have much to be thankful for.

Samhain is almost upon us as well, so I'll have to drag out me old dusty poems and tales and repost them :)

Today we're having fancy shrimp and hush puppies for dinner. I'm trying to clean out the big freezer before we move. I don't know yet whether we'll be able to take it or not or even whether we should but I do know that we need to eat as much of it as possible and wait on buying any more freezer things until I know for sure.

I've been taking in laundry on the side for around 7 years now. I don't make much from it but what i do make helps. I'm thinking that once we do get settled I might try to start my Green House Cleaning again. I tried to start it here but it never worked out. mainly because I was going to only be cleaning newly built houses and no one would hire just one woman. Everyone said it was at least a 2 person job and they didn't care that I had experience doing it alone and on a team. Anyway, maybe I'll try it again for lived in houses. I'm not a good people person at all and I'm a tiny bit cootiephobic but it might work out :)

I had applied for an Apothecary job here (in town) and I think I would have had it for sure had we not been moving. She al;most hired me on the spot but when i explained that it would very likely only be for a month or so she said no. Which, of course, I understand.

There was also a second job at a wonderful antique store I love. They said the same when I explained about the time. It would have been very unfair to them not to have told them tho.

I've been baking breads and making fresh herbed butters for all our neighbors for being good neighbors over the years we've been here. I made some for the guys who tried to help on the Blazer and they and their families liked them so much I decided to make some for everyone :) It's always very exciting to deliver a surprise!

I hope to keep my bread machine, I only use it for the dough cycle but it sure is nice to pile everything in and let it do the first half. I can and still do make it by hand from beginning to end but it saves so much time for the machine to that first part. We'll see.

I think I will go ahead and sell my beloved dishwasher. My first, and possibly last. I do love it and I don't like washing dishes but washing is easy enough and even tho it's a small dishwasher is still takes quite a bit to fill it so it sets with dirty dishes for a few days each time, which is a bit creepy. Anyway, I probably would have room for it even if there was water and power in place.

I'm having some trouble getting acceptable power to the 3 room guest cottage. I would absolutely go with solar but to run a full size fridge it is way beyond my means. Electric is my next best option right now but the company has some tweazer rules about not letting anyone make payments unless they meet certain guidelines including that the dwelling be 1,000 sq.ft *~* The last option, that i can figure, is a very loud gas generator. We'll see, I haven't given up yet!

Speaking of the 3 room cabin ... If it works out and we do get it, eventually we'll have an actual bathroom but until then we need something that is acceptable to both of us. We're both ok with using an outhouse, we both have many times before. Neither of us is ok using an outhouse in the middle of the night, when we're sick, in the dead of winter or a in storm. So, Nik is building us a sawdust toilet and we will add a little private room just for it. I have named it .... The Litter Box. I don't get out much.

 ..................................................... Lindy's mighty fine version

This is what he's building, this particular one belongs to my friend, Lindy. I was going to add an extra flange around the top as a splash guard but the way Lindy has raised the bucket to exact height might work better still. We'll make it that way and go from there. The difference is that she added a bucket shelf in the bottom so it can easily be adjusted or removed later.

We'll also build a small private room with space for the box, needed things and a basin and water for washing up.

I hope to get a claw foot tub which we'll have near the woodstove with a privacy screen for bathing. I do have a little camping solar shower that i picked up awhile back. We've never used it but it looks in good shape.

Now I need to get back to working on the new website http://WildMoonCottage.com I have some last things to list and more paypal buttons to add but it's up and running :) I think I'll point the HealingHouseTeas domain to the new site instead of leaving the old one open as well. Hopefully less confusing and will help get the new address and name out there. If anyone does pass through and have suggestions or comments about the new site please do let me know. You can post here or to WildMoonCottage@aol.com

Juli, it won't pull a big fridge but you can get a inverter and use it for your computer or a mini fridge. William used a inverter in his big truck for his mini fridge, coffee maker and hot plate for cooking. You hook it to a battery and would have to put the battery in your truck to recharge but could rotate a couple. Just a thought. Love your potty!

I have considered that, with or without solar panels. but we really need the big fridge if I can figure it out. It is a good thought tho :)
