Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

Sunlight & Flannel Sheets

The sun was so bright this morning that it woke me through the flannel curtain. So bright, crisp and lovely, how could I not get up to start the day. On the other hand, my bed and shabby flannel sheets beckoned me to stay and soon my eyes drifted shut and my bed won out.

I dreamt a strange dream ... I was traveling with Nik on an odd little contraption that was open and flat. We had just enough room for ourselves and a bag each. Sometimes Star or one of the cats was with us, sometimes not. We were traveling but also having to live on the thing until we were able to make it home. The only thing that really worried me in the dream was the thought of rain and that I knew Nik was anxious to get home.

I woke to the smell of burnt toast drifting in through the cat door and the gossiping of crows from the tops of the forest trees.

It was chilly this morning but not as chilly as it has been the last few mornings. I'm glad i added an extra blanket but it made it all the harder to get out of bed :) But warm clothes and a hot cup of coffee makes things just right.

If I haven't heard from the mechanic I'll call later this afternoon and see if he's found anything. I'm worried about cost but excited to finally know what is wrong.

Next Tuesday is court. How silly that sounds in my head. When I think of courts I thinks of Queens and Knights and Jesters.

The search for a new place is very slow. It takes so long to get a reply from the realtors and some don't reply at all. I would think they would at least say ... sorry, no. But I guess they're very busy doing something.

I'm still running into the problem of foreclosure too. I've figured out how to check, most places anyway, to see if they're owned by the finance company before contacting the realtor. Sadly, way over half are. I don't think the finance companies should be allowed to list the places as For Sale By Owner but I guess that technically they are.

I read a news headline this morning "Firefighters Let Home Burn After Finding Owner Didn't Pay Annual 75.00 Fee" The firefighters arrived in time to save the place, with plenty of time to rescue the 3 dogs and a cat who perished in the fire. But they only used their time and water to keep the fire from spreading to the neighbors houses who had paid the yearly 75.00 fee.

I believe in hell, I have all my life, I have seen it, lived it and read about it in the news. The fact that people would choose that way, actually choose it, hurts my heart and my brain.

I've found that working on my blog is fun and actually relaxing. Very funny considering how hard it was for me to start it and then have to post something on it *~* I started it a few years ago just to advertise my artwork and struggled to post anything more than an occasional picture. Now I enjoy posting and working on it! I hope I don't make it to frufru tho :)

Today's big meal (if it's thawed) will be roasted chicken with lemon and cracked black pepper, with brown and wild rice, carrots, peas, bread and tea. If it's not thawed, I'll make some vegetables beef soup, frozen from a big pot awhile back.

More boxes packed, many more to go. At there very least I'm getting things cleaned that somehow got skipped last spring. There was a time when each spring I would go room by room cleaning everything in each from ceiling to floor, including the ceiling and floor. Now spring cleaning is more of a good thought and maybe the dusting of a cobweb or two. But the trade off is lots of tiny plant starts, lots of things prepared for the Farmers Markets, extra garden plans and dreams of fresh strawberries.

Speaking of that, which of course I wasn't .... it's time for me to get back to work :)

^^^^That is really sad. My Mom told me about that this morning. I could not have ignored that fire if I would have been there, nor could I have let those animals die. This just sickens me!!!

Gypsy, are you on the Homesteading Today forum? There is a place listed in Oklahoma for $300 a month (or could barter, it says) and it sounds pretty nice. If you want I can contact this person and try to get you two in touch.

Thank you so much Granny Sue ! I just went and found it, unfortunately it's rent and not selling. It sounds like a very good deal and good place otherwise.
