Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

Autumn Days

In the words of beloved Little Bear ... "Today was a very good day"

I don't know what it is about being alive but I bloody well enjoy it. I love the feel of it, the sound of it, the smell of it. The day was full of life and yet very quiet and still. We had to go back into town, to the feed store for alfalfa. We rode with the windows down and I listened to Beethoven (a gift from a dear friend), as I examined each little thing along the road. The crow, the 2 white horses on the hill, the longhorn mixes dappling the field, the little brown dog curled up in the sun of his front yard. How wonderful it all was  :)

We spent the rest of the day doing regular sort of things. I hung out a bit of laundry earlier and it was dry in no time. Nik spent some time in the hammock studying for a test while I took down and folded the laundry (I'm a fold as I go person). We unloaded the alfalfa and stacked it in the tarp barn. I gathered some kindling from around the yard while Nik did some raking. I worked in the garden cutting back things that I would usually gather to dry but am piling in the forest to make some lucky creature a frangrant and soft home, I got dishes done, more tea order filled, more boxes packed, another large box of things to sell out on the porch, sandwiches made and eaten, vegetable soup for supper simmered in the big pot.

One big thing that was supposed to get done but didn't was dog baths. Hopefully tomorrow, if the weather holds. They don't get them often, only 4 times a year, but they actually missed this summer's bath so they're behind (and a bit stinky). They do get dry baths in between, especially Star. Just dry baths of baking soda rubbed in, shaken, then brushed out.

Also today, I made an offer on another cabin. It's a long shot but we're making prayers that he accepts. I've made other offers over the weeks with no return reply at all. We'll see if this is the place.

I haven't had the Blazer fixed yet, I'm saving every cent to go toward a new place, so we have to get a jump and keep it running everytime we go anywhere. As soon as the cabin sells that is second only to securing a place for us to live.

For now it's getting late and I have a date with a netflix, a pastry with lemon curd filling and a cup of hot chocolate and Irish Cream.

Sounds like you had a purposeful, lovely day, Juli. Good luck on the offer. I hope it works out for you and Nik. :)
