Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

Love, Security & Outdoor Showers

I love so many things and I can truly find happiness no matter where I am but I am happier here than I have ever been in any place I've ever lived. Having it on paper is a huge part I'm sure but it's so much more than that. This place is so inspiring, so comforting, so invigorating, so nourishing, so luxurious ... it fills me with joy and maybe even something I think I've never felt before. Maybe it even feels safe.

Just being here, knowing it ours, our true home. It's like winning the lottery but in a way that is deeper and lasting.

Nik got the pull string on the tiller replaced and I got more fuel for it today so the garden tilling will commence shortly. I thought about waiting to see if I could find someone to plow it up for me this first year but I don;t want to wait to long. The seeds be call'n to me.

I got one flat of lettuces planted yesterday, a mix of different leaf lettuces. My mouth watered while I planted them :)

We also both got long, wonderful, cleansing showers today!! :) :) :) :) the water was colder than a warm shower but also much warmer than the freezing well water. Once the shock wears off, like jumping into a spring fed creek, it felt perfect. I could have stayed much longer but .... maybe next time :) We had to shower with clothes on because the other had to man the barrel bung and I haven't finished enclosing it in yet. Neither of us minded tho, I felt so good to be completely clean. We have of course kept clean but there's a huge difference between washing your hair in a bucket and your body with a basin and wash cloth and having wonderful water pour over your whole being.

After my shower we went into town to get feed and they said someone had bought up all the kelp
*-* They have it on back order now. I couldn't afford it anyway, it was just kelp gossip :)

Tomorrow I have the first cleaning job of my new side business, cleaning houses for a little extra money.

Saturday we're going to be getting ready for the Trade gathering on Sunday. I hope the weather is nice for Sunday! We're supposed to get the Buff chicks then too  :)

For now it's time for evening chores .... milk, gather eggs, be so thankful, relish or simple life ...
