Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

Pictures from around the cottage

Half a box of pears. The box is empty now and we have dried pears, frozen pears, pear syrup, pear butter and more  :)

Beautiful sweet Nemo, thriving and happy. A long way from the mangy pup we brought home.

A quart of dried cinnamon pears. I ate the first quart alreayd  *o*

 Our beloved cottage  :)

Mr Pig in his house

Cucumbers still to be used. Most are being made into sweet n sour cukes and frozen. I'm going to dehydrate a few and see how they can be used and if I like them. Of all the things I've dried, I've never tried cucumbers.

Wonderful mushrooms drying on my very old Ronco dehydrator. I boguth it used over 20 years ago and it still works perfectly. I'm making venison jerky on it now, the first jerky I've ever made.

Sweet, Sweet Raspberry  :)

Tartan skirt. It rained most of the day today so i spent the time making bread and sewing. I got finished 4 skirts, 1 black gauze slip and got 2 tops/dresses cut out and a 3rd one started. I also cut out 4 more market bags to make.

Your cottage is beautiful! As is Nemo, Mr Pig (love that name) and Raspberry :) How did your jerky turn out? I recently made my first batch of beef jerky and even though I went over the recommended time in the dehydrator, I think it could have done with a little longer. The pears look deeelish too :)

I like to use dried cukes in dressings and such for salads, just grind them down and add to them.... cuke chips are also quite tasty, before drying add seasonings and eat like chips

Morning, Juli..

I dry cukes every year...I salt them a little with sea salt. They're a great crunchy addition to salads all winter long and I love just eating them outta the bag.

Love Nemo and Mr Pig...

Have had dried cinnamon pears--may have to try that!
