Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

9.7.08 Cricket Song Morning

Crickets serenaded us thru the night and I slept like a princess with no pea :)

There's still a lovely cricket chorus this morning, I so love the wildfolk songs. There's also a slight scent of woodsmoke in the air, probably from someones cookout fires last evening.

So, here I sit, with big warm Star at me feet, cricket song and woodsmoke scent at the window, shawl draped cross my shoulders, a hot cup of cappuccino at hand and pones baking in the oven. How very lucky I am :)

It is supposed to storm today and I believe it will, I heard some thunderings in the night.

I went to sleep with several paintings in my head but 2 especially, so I plan to paint today. One is a little folk chic balancing stones and bird, the other is a folk house with trees.

I've also been wanting to work on an Altar'd journal or two lately, they take up a lot of room tho and right now the juju side (where i make them) is piled full of stuff from a rearranging I did several weeks ago *~*

I plan to get some baking done today as well, some breakfast cake and some corn flatbreads, which aren't actually baked. The flatbreads i make are basically just tortillas but much thicker.

I would so like to get some sewing done but I'm not sure I'll get to it yet. I'm wanting to make some more pillows to sell and maybe some little bags. I used to make simple peasant skirts and the like but they take more room then I have. I also need to try and remake some of my clothes, to get things to fit me on top they're always to big everywhere else *~* altering clothing is more difficult to me then just making them from scratch.

My sister Becky can sew anything. She used to make many of her own clothes and they were so beautiful. truly better then anything I've ever seen for sale. And that reminds me, I must concoct a way to get her offered ivy :)

I haven't spoken to Pepper in ages. I call but our timing has been off and I never find her there. She just had a birthday in August, she's a fire lion :)

Sometimes I hear people talking about their families, aunts and uncles, cousins galore. The only blood family I have ever known are my sisters and my mother. When I was in my early 30's I did meet my brother and father within a few years of eachother. my father was a complete ass and my brother treated me as tho I had the plague.

Relatives are simply people you're related to, Family shares a piece of your very being.

Anyway ....

I had several dreams last night but I don't really recall any but a tiny piece of one. Someone was passing a law that women couldn't cut their hair. So I promptly cut all mine off :)

Merry cricket song day !

How lovely to hear crickets. We don't have any here on the island although I've heard them when in other parts of the country. Always found the sound comforting. Well said about relatives and family.

I can still hear crickets this morning too. The sound was peaceful as I milked the goats and did the morning chores. Thanks so much for caring and all your jujus. I think of you as family more than some of my blood relatives.

*snicker*snort* Juli! reading your blog helps me connect with a part of me that I've lost over the years. Your dream reaction to the dream law is one example. Another connection is to Mother Earth and Her Blessings. I used to be so much closer. I now feel I am standing on the side lines of other's lifes.
Your blog and others are giving me the push to step back into having a life of my own. Thank you.
