Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

11.04.08 I have rocked the vote

I left a little after 6am, water and book in hand, in case of a long wait. It was a lovely morning, bright, clear and a little chilly. I have to drive to another little town to vote in the a country preschool building. There was a line and a lot on cars but not as bad as I expected. More then I've ever seen before tho and I was glad of it. I waited about 30 minutes and was glad I had my wrap.

Nik went with me and there were two other Mothers with their Sons there voting for the first time, both having just turned 18 this year. Nik has to wait 2 more years but he thought it was pretty cool. He always goes with me and I always say I'm voting for both of us until he can vote for himself. As long as he's been able to understand enough I've always explained things to him and asked his opinion and input on how he would vote and why.

We had a big breakfast of ham, egg and cheese on english muffins with coffee and apple juice. We'll have leftovers from sundays chicken dinner for lunch and maybe sandwiches or pitas for supper. I made some french vanilla box cake which we'll have with hot tea for dessert.

I've listed the Buff hens for sale. They're good chickens but we have so many. I didn't want more then 20 and we ended up with over 30 total plus the 3 ducks. There are 9 Buffs and I'm hoping to sell them for about 10 each which should be more then enough to pay for chicken food thru the winter.

The Aracuanas are growing fast and hopefully will start laying too in another month or so. If we do sell all the Buffs that will leave us with 20 hens plus old Hen who doesn't lay at all anymore.

The henhouse has stalled a bit in that I can't get one main board off to straighten the thing out. It's very frustrating but it will all work out :) I always think things happen as they should as long as we try our hardest. So I guess for some reason the big henhouse should remain askew a little longer until I can buy or barrow a prybar to get that blasted board off.

It has never taken me so long to get anything built in my whole life and I've built quite a few things over the years *~*

We've even tried beating the board off with a large hammer. the wood split but the board remains attached. I kind of even loathed cutting the board down in the first place because it's very old and came from an old barn. I got 3 boards from the same barn several years ago and had always planned to use them as giant shelves. 2 boards were 16 feet long and one was 22 feet. But at least they're being used.

There was a house a few years ago that I was set to buy but the guy changed his mind at the last minute. It was so very cool and on 3 acres on a cliff overlooking a river. The house was divided in two have connected by a long windowed hallway. The main part was the livingroom, kitchen and dinning room with a lovely loft above the living room area, leaving the dinning room ceiling open all the way up to the rafters. My plan was to build a very big table from old wood or a giant old door and hang one of the barn boards from the rafters with hundreds of candles along it.

Anyway, things happen as they will and we're quite happy to remain in the Burrow where I can still do all the same things, just in different ways.

I've been up since around 2am and spent the morning reading and filling some tea orders. When I got online to print the shipping this morning it was 4:44. 11:11 was what was on the clock last night when I got up to use the bathroom and glanced over at it.

Well I hope everyones day is peaceful, fulfilling and prosperous :)

I voted saturday so am enjoying listening to the rain on the roof and waiting for William to get home. Wish I was there to enjoy a cup of tea and some of your cake with you. Someday we will meet!

Not to worry about the chicken house, I'm sure you'll get it all sorted before long. Have a happy day.
