Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

Juniper Rabbit and Pictures

We got a surprise addition on April fools Day :) A big white rabbit with pink eyes :) I found that she's an albino French Lop. Very sweet and very beautiful. She nipped the people who had her but she hasn't nipped us at all. If she does that will be OK too, I've been nipped before. They communicate very well tho and if you learn to understand and listen I think a nip would be very rare.

Right now she stays in her hutch much of the time but gets out each day in the chicken pen to run around and investigate while I clean her house. later we'll build her a larger pen that she can spend more time free in and eventually, she'll live in the greenhouse as well.

We'll also be getting her a friend soon tho they may have to be spayed because I think even two females will fight sometimes.

Here's Juniper Rabbit, ( Juni for short ) running around the chicken pen while I cleaned her house. She has bluish eyes in the sun but in the shade they're pink.

And here's the hutch we built today. It's attached to the henhouse inside the chicken pen. The wire house (I loath the word cage) comes out so if the weather is to bad her house and her can be taken into the henhouse or our house.

Here's the henhouse with hutch. This summer we're going to make the henhouse a little larger but it's seems to be the perfect size right now for the 11 hens and 3 ducks.

We now have 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Rhode Island Red's, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 4 Ameracuana's, 1 old Hen and 3 Indian Runner ducks

Sun, one of the young Ameracuanas.

Inana, anothe Ameracuana

The HillBilly goathouse *~* I'm not sure what happend. This was the big henhouse we built last year but when we got to the front nothing was straight. It doesn't leak and it's strong so it will make a fine goathouse for now. This summer we have to remove a side wall and add a door into the goat pen. At that time we'll also be able to straighten the whole thing up a bit and fix the front and hen side door.
Eventually we need to add at least 2 more this size so that there are 2 individual stalls for kidding etc. and a small milking room.
This is the goat pen looking out from the chicken pen. At first the goat girsl, Ruby and Matilda, will stay in the chicken pen and goat house at night and be led to the goat pen each day. There will be a barrel house and toys in the goat pen for them.

This is the goat pen from the side. When we get the goat side door added they'll just go in to their house that way. We'll keep the door on to the chicken pen tho in case we need it.

These are the little creetins that Lulu the feral cat brought to the porch. the white one is a siamese girl and the 2 dark ones are tiger boys. A neighbor girl is going to take them and raise them as soon as they're weaned. I'll list them on the cat adoption and hopefully they'll find wonderful homes right away.

You have been busy building! Everything looks warm and happy. You can keep 2 female rabbits together. We kept 2 together for over a year and they never had a fight. Now they are in houses next connected to each other but apart by a screen door.
