Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

8.19.08 Night

It's midnight and I'm up with a hot cup of chi spice tea with cream.

Today was spent getting caught up on some things and working out other things. Dreaming and planning, backing and roasting, reading and learning.

For supper we had oven roasted seasoned fries and the last of our wonderful corn. Later for dessert we had grapes and a couple of slices of homemade wheat bread with a little cinnamon honey-butter. The oven roasted fries can be made many different ways, we even make them with sweet potatoes and cinnamon-sugar for a sweet snack or dessert sometimes. Tonight I made these ...

Oven Roasted Seasoned Fries4 medium Potatoes washed & peeled (you can leave the peels on as well)2 T. vegetable oilseason salt and cracked pepper to taste

Slice up the clean potatoes so that they're all fairly the same size. Pat the slices dry and put on a baking sheet, drizzle with oil, season and toss to coat well. Arrange them so they're in a single layer and bake at 425 until golden brown. Turn halfway thru to brown more evenly. Times are different depending on thickness etc. but generally around 20 to 30 minutes.

It's supposed to rain the next few days so I may try to do some beading and painting. A dear friend gave me some wonderful new beads and they've gotten me in the creating mood.

Maybe I'll go do some beading right now :)
