Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

9.4.08 Still Raining

Merry morning :)

It's still raining here, just a steady rain, constant and sure. The air outside is thick with humidity and the murmuring of things yet to come. Standing on the porch I could feel the spirits jostling around me, brushing my shoulder and the back of my neck. Sometimes I'm lulled but them. Sometimes I am to aware of them. Sometimes I cease to exist here and become one of them, suspended on the heavy air like a feather on an invisible fingertip.

We've had homemade breakfast cake (coffee cake) for 1st breakfast the last two mornings. For dinner today, we'll have baked corndogs and baked beans. For supper, peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Our middle meal is generally our large one, we're rarely very hungry late in the day and I think it's better not to eat to heavy before bed.

Besides the regular stuff I'm not sure what we'll do today. Just see what comes as it shows up :) Maybe bake some more bread, bead a bit, read and maybe sew. I'm expecting the second half of Cranford soon tho even if it comes today I won't likely watch it yet. I did get Atonement yesterday, that might be good for a rainy day :)

We found another egg yesterday :) :) The same, very small and pale, on the floor of the henhouse. I don't expect to find one today tho because of the weather. We'll see :) I wish I could wiggle my nose and the bigger henhouse would build itself but when I tried it, I only sneezed.

I hope everyone in the rainy areas stays safe from flooding.

And Slo, I hope your roads are dry and your journey is pleasant :)

How interesting, your bit about the spirits. I too feel them the same way at times. Sometimes so close I feel I'm being hugged and protected. Of course I rarely mention this to anyone as they would think me completely mad, lol. It's wonderful though, isn't it! Thanks for sharing these experiences.
