Wild Moon Cottage is a small working homestead in the pristine Ozark Mountains. We have dairy goats, poultry, organic herb and vegetable gardens, a start of a tiny fruit orchard, several black walnut trees, wild berries and fields of wildcrafting goodness. We raise our own milk, our own eggs, much of our own medicine and food. I do laundry by hand, make my own vinegar, candles, soap, bread, cheese ........ For a living I am an artist and herbalist. My goal for myself and our homestead is to be as self sufficient and self sustaining as possible.

9.9.08 & the Hand Dream

Last night I had a most disturbing dream and I still feel shaken by it. I woke with a slight headache and feeling like my will had been drained.

It's 5:55

yesterday, as I was passing by Niks room, a commercial was on TV showing many different people putting out or raising their hands. I was enthralled and stood watching until the end. I have no idea what the commercial was for but I thought it was very cool.

The dream ... I was seeing the hands from the commercial. Hands of all shapes, sizes and colors were being raised together. In particular a beautiful henna'd hand. As I watched I felt very proud but that soon changed to horror as the hands began to fall away. They were being cut off. I was now watching hundreds of hands fall to the ground. Not very bloody but I could see or knew they had been cut off. I began to cry out, and suddenly I had a basket and I was gathering up all the hands. I looked into the basket and saw the beautiful henne'd hand on top, I felt like my heart would truly break and I began to cry again. But suddenly I stopped crying and was trying to think of a way I could return the hands and make things right again. Then I woke.

The high for today is supposed to be 68 :) I love this weather.

It's a bit damp and when we tried to build the second wall the wood was still much to damp to work with. It's been raining each night for the last two nights.

I finished one of the paintings yesterday. The girl balancing stones and bird :) I still have to folk house and trees to get done. I also have another that came to me the otherday but it's not fully formed in my head yet. It's for a friend who lives in Africa.

Myra and The Balancing Act

I also have two specific juju dolls coming and a couple more I want to make.

Now, if art would just start to sell again ....

Todays menu is toast with gravy for breakfast. Cabenjarro (pasta n white sauce) with garlic bread and peas for lunch. Oatmeal and banana for supper. I need to start the bread for lunch very soon. I so love the bread machine !!

Besides regular chores, I have some ideas for some new pillows. I plan to buy some buckwheat hulls as soon as I can for filler. And maybe some little hot/cold packs filled with rice.

I made a prototype purse but I don't like how it turned out so I need to go back and redo my design.

Yesterday Apollo came in with a large swelling on his muzzle. It didn't seem to pain him and it wasn't swollen inside, his mouth and throat were fine. I think it must have been a bite or sting and within a few hours it had gone down almost completely but we were worried about him. He's grown considerably but is still very stocky. We got him as a rescued German Shepherd and knew he might have something else but Nik discovered that his toes are completely webbed so I'm thinking he's a Lab disguised as a Shepherd. Regardless, he's a good, sweet man and he and Nik bonded immediately which means that Star and I can live with his wild and goofy ways as well :)
Handsome Nik and beautiful Apollo

Well, I'm off to morning chores and start some bread. Merry day :)

Bit of a nightmare you had there I'd say. German Shepherds are my favorite dog. I had one many years ago. They're wonderful. Apollo is a beauty. Of course Nik is a very handsome lad too, lol. I really like your painting.
